PALM SPRINGS ADVENTURE

We went to the Palm Springs area at the beginning of last week to check out RV parks as an option for next winter.  The drive there was about 2.5 hours and we took the old highway route on the north side of the Salton Sea.  It was an interesting drive through a few small farming towns, but we only had a view of the Salton Sea from a distance.  Many years ago, the water level was much higher and the shoreline would have been closer to the road.

The first 3 RV resorts we checked out were in the Desert Hot Springs area which is a smaller community north of Palm Springs, and north of I 10.  It is a very quiet locale and the resort facilities were quite nice.  A couple of them had pickleball courts which is an attraction for us.  We drove around each resort taking photos and observing the type of people staying there and the activities they were doing.  We talked to people who said it could get very windy there and one resort was actually across the road from the big wind turbine farm.  Perhaps the wind here in Yuma isn’t so bad??

In the afternoon, we checked out 3 more resorts in the Indio area which is east of Palm Springs.  One resort was half empty although it looked very nice and then we checked out the prices at the office (more that twice what we pay here in Yuma).  A price reduction might get them more business.  We found a really nice resort in a quiet neighbourhood where most of the lots are already owned.  The rental agent gave us an idea of which sites might be available for rent so we checked them out and took a few photos.

The Palm Springs area is busier than Yuma and we’d have to deal with more traffic whenever we went somewhere.  Right now, we can hop on our bikes and ride 2 miles down the road to shop at Walmart.  It’s very convenient when we need a few groceries.

Anyway, we spent the night at a motel in La Quinta (southeast of Palm Desert) and enjoyed the comforts and spaciousness of a motel suite.  The king size bed was comfortable and I treated myself to a long soak in the bathtub.  The next day, we did some shopping before we left and I purchased a pair of golf shoes at a store named Lumpy’s.  They have really good deals on all golf products and apparel.  We drove back to Yuma on the main highway south of the Salton Sea and it was a better, faster road that was 4 lanes all the way.  We stopped in El Centro for a late lunch and arrived home in the late afternoon.

It was worth the trip to check out Palm Springs so we have a better idea about our options for next winter.  We like it here well enough, but we do enjoy changes and new experiences.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
