This past Tuesday, we attended an Oak Ridge Boys concert held here at our RV resort. They were performing in Las Vegas and did a loop down through Arizona on their way back home to Tennessee. The Resort hosts quite a few well known acts during the winter months and this is one that we wanted to see. We went to the afternoon show and had seats in the front row on the left side of the stage.
It was a great performance, with almost non-stop music and a little bit of talk that was entertaining. The band originated in the 1940’s and was first called the Georgia Clodhoppers. They performed at a place called Oak Ridge and eventually changed their name to the current one. The 4 main band members have been together since the early 1970’s with the first one joining in 1965 and the last one in about 1973.
They sure look different now (don’t we all!!) but they sound mostly the same.
We weren’t familiar with many of their songs but their most famous one, Elvira, we knew quite well. Here’s a link to the song.
