BURGER BASH

Time for the Burger Bash story.  Each Saturday, our resort (The Palms) hosts a hamburger BBQ for $2.50 per person for residents and $3.50 for non-residents with free pop or beer.  The event goes from noon to 3 p.m. and there is a live band that performs during that time.

Our first Saturday here, Stuart volunteered to be a BBQ chef’s assistant and this past Saturday he stepped up as one of two BBQ chefs.  He started cooking burgers at 10 a.m. and worked steadily in the smoke and sun until about 1:30.  Between the two chefs, they cooked about 1475 burgers.  Wow!!  What a lot of burgers.

CLEAN GRILL TO START

MAKING LOTS OF SMOKE

THE BIG CLEAN UP

There were also about 20 kegs of beer consumed during the 3 hours and everyone was having plenty of fun.  I volunteered to take care of the condiment tables and was busy filling bowls with chopped onions and pickles and re-filling large ketchup, relish, mustard and mayonnaise dispensers.  That kept me hopping for a couple of hours.

"KETCHUP, MUSTARD, RELISH, ANYONE!!"

The theme for the Burger Bash this week was Harley Davidson motorcycles so people from all over Yuma brought their Harleys out for display in the front parking lot.  We’re not sure how many were there as we were busy working the whole time.  It must have been quite a few based on the number of people dressed in motorcycle leathers and Harley t-shirts.

PEOPLE INSIDE

PEOPLE OUTSIDE

Sunday was a day of rest, Monday was shopping in the morning and water volleyball in the afternoon at the pool, Tuesday was golf in the late morning and a mixed billiards event in the evening, today was pickleball.  We need another Sunday!!

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
