OH, THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL…..

How’s that for a catchy title at this time of year?  And by Arizona standards, the weather was frightful a few days ago.  We heard the forecast was for rain on Wednesday so we switched our tee time to Thursday and drove to the Phoenix area on Wednesday instead.  We had researched the RV resorts in the Mesa and Apache Junction areas east of Phoenix and decided to check them out for next year, to see if any of them are nicer than where we’re staying.  They’re not, but we’re glad that we checked.

It started raining lightly around noon and turned into steady rain in the afternoon and it lasted until almost 6 p.m.  We were in the truck most of the time so it wasn’t too bad but back at our site, the outside carpet, chairs and BBQ were very wet.  That amount of rain was quite unusual for this time of year and then the next day, we woke up to dense fog.  Now, that is extremely unusual—they said they haven’t seen fog like that for over 15 years.  Aren’t we fortunate to share the experience?  Here are a few photos:

The fog lasted until noon on Thursday.  We had a 12:07 p.m. tee time and were expecting a cool round of golf.  Not so, as the sun came out and it was very pleasant for the entire afternoon.  We golfed with a couple who used to live in Saskatchewan and now live in Prince Edward Island but own a winter home at the Robson Ranch golf resort where we like to play.  We certainly meet some interesting people on the golf courses but the majority of them are Canadians spending the winter here, not Arizonians out playing golf.  They must be working.

Going home for Christmas is important for many of the folks here in the resort and quite a few of them headed out around Dec 15.  Most of them just fly home, so the RV’s are sitting empty until they get back.  Two out of three of our close neighbours are gone now and about 5 others within our view are also gone.  It will be quiet around here for the next while.

We’ve done all our Christmas shopping, mailed out gifts and cards, put up our lights and little fibre optic lit Christmas tree, and have our Christmas Day dinner plans made.  So, there’s not much else to do these days but play golf, pickleball, ride the bikes and read.  Thankfully, no Christmas season stress for us.

Living Large Defined

After retiring from the BC Forest Service, selling their home in Kamloops and living at "no fixed address" for 10 months, Linda and Stuart bought a house in Grand Forks. They are now embracing life in this small community as well as Snowbirding south for the winter and are living "larger" than their dreams. This is Linda's blog of their adventures.
