We left Ramona on Feb 8 and headed southwest to the
coast. We picked up highway 1 (also known
as highway 101 or Pacific Coast highway) and headed north through the towns of
Del Mar, Encintas, Carlsbad and Oceanside.
The highway goes through mile after mile of boutique shops, art
galleries, restaurants and coffee shops.
Even at this time of year, there were folks everywhere eating, drinking
and shopping.
The highway ends south of Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base
so we had to go north on I-5 for about 20 minutes before we could get back on a
coastal highway. From there, it was more
of the same thing except the houses were more elaborate, expensive and close together
along the beach front, especially in the Laguna Beach area.
Our stay this week is at the Marriott Newport Coast Villas
and we have a lovely corner condo with an ocean view on the top/4th floor
of one of the 40 buildings on the property.
Yes, it is a large place with plenty of amenities.

We arrived on a sunny day and then woke up to rain yesterday
morning. Sigh!! We had to get groceries and fuel and by noon,
the clouds were gone and the sun was shining.
In the afternoon, we took the Marriott shuttle to Crystal
Cove beach and went for a 1.5 hour beach walk.
It was both invigorating and relaxing as the waves rolled in to the
beach. There were whale watching boats offshore
and we did see a couple of whale spouts.
Today has been a mix of sunny periods with serious rainy
spells. It does come down hard
here. We were able to get out to church
and do some walks around the resort, a day of rest before heading to beaches and
piers tomorrow.
